Maoist Center Expresses Concerns Over Religious and Communal Harmony in Nepal

The ruling CPN (Maoist Center) has voiced apprehensions over the state of religious and communal harmony in Nepal, warning that it may be at risk of disturbance.

During a meeting of party office-bearers held at Paris Danda on Thursday, discussions centered on various activities across the country that have the potential to disrupt religious and communal harmony. Maoist Center Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota announced that the meeting concluded with this worrisome assessment.

Additionally, Sapkota emphasized that signs of anarchy are emerging in the nation and must be taken seriously. The meeting also deliberated on the necessity of initiating efforts to address these concerns. Furthermore, dialogue with protesting relief teachers was discussed.

The ongoing protests by dissatisfied teachers come in response to an agreement reached between the government and the Nepal Teachers’ Federation (NTF), which they feel does not adequately address their demands.

The government and the NTF recently signed a six-point agreement, which included amendments to the school education bill registered in the House. A study committee, composed of experts and federation representatives, is set to address the integration of teachers and periodic promotions, leading to necessary legal provisions based on the committee’s findings.

In addition, the agreement outlines procedures for ranking public school teachers, with principals evaluating teacher performance and school management committee chairs evaluating principals. Despite these developments, the Nepal Relief Teachers’ Central Committee expressed dissatisfaction, asserting that their demands have not been adequately met.
