Maoist Center Withdraws Support, Exits Koshi Province Government

CPN (Maoist Center) has withdrawn its support from the Koshi Province Government led by Chief Minister Kedar Karki of Nepali Congress.

The decision was made during a meeting of the parliamentary committee of CPN (Maoist Center) held on Monday, according to Indra Bahadur Angbo, the parliamentary party leader of Maoist Center in the Koshi Province Assembly.

Angbo confirmed that the Maoist Center will inform the Province Chief of its decision on the same day and will also file an application to convene a special session of the provincial assembly.

Although Chief Minister Karki initially garnered support from CPN-UML, Maoist Center later extended its vote of confidence to him. However, in a recent turn of events, Maoist Center has formed a new ruling alliance with UML.

According to the understanding among the ruling coalition partners, CPN-UML is set to form the next government in Koshi Province. UML leaders have called on Chief Minister Karki to step down to facilitate the transition, but Karki has staunchly refused, citing constitutional provisions.

Karki maintains that his government was formed within the framework of the constitution and has warned of mid-term polls if he is ousted. The political situation in Koshi Province remains tense amidst these developments.
