NA Chairman and Australian House Speaker Hold Talks

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina and the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, Milton Dick, held a meeting today. Timilsina stated that he believed Speaker Dick’s visit to Nepal would further enhance the relationship between Nepal and Australia.

Discussing the harmonious and cooperative relationship between Nepal and Australia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1960, Timilsina expressed his happiness that friendly relations, based on mutual trust, understanding, and cooperation, have grown deeper in recent days.

Chairman Timilsina emphasized the importance of exchanging experiences between Nepal and Australia to strengthen democratic systems, values, and institutions. He expressed his belief that parliamentary friendship groups in both countries would contribute to making the relationship between their respective parliaments more dynamic.

Appreciating Australia’s contribution to Nepal’s socio-economic development, Timilsina expressed his confidence that Australia’s support for landlocked and underdeveloped countries like Nepal would continue to increase in the future.

Furthermore, Chairman Timilsina noted that with over 60 thousand Nepalese students studying in Australia and more than 122 thousand Nepalis living in Australia, efforts should be made from both sides to establish direct air flights between Nepal and Australia.

During the meeting, Australian Speaker Dick expressed his delight that the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Nepal would be coming to Australia for a study tour to gain practical experience in federalism. He believed that the experience Australia has gained during the implementation of federalism would be beneficial for Nepal as well. Speaker Dick expressed his confidence that the already harmonious relationship with Nepal would continue to strengthen and that the exchange of parliamentary experiences would further enhance Nepal’s federalism.
