NC Fails to Reach Consensus on Candidate Selection Despite Wednesday Talks

Despite extensive deliberations held at Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Wednesday, the Nepali Congress remains undecided on candidates for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for Baisakh 15.

The discussions, which lasted from 3 pm to 6 pm, failed to yield a consensus on the candidates for the crucial by-elections.

According to Nepali Congress spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat, while Wednesday’s discussions have concluded, the party will reconvene at 9 am on Thursday to continue deliberations.

President Deuba has been actively engaged in discussions over the past three days to finalize the party’s candidates for the upcoming by-elections.

There is significant internal discord within the Nepali Congress regarding the selection of candidates for the by-elections in Ilam-2 and Bajhang A.

The primary contention revolves around District President Dumbar Khadka and another prominent leader, Bheshraj Acharya, vying for the ticket of Ilam-2.

While President Deuba has proposed Khadka’s name, leader Shekhar Koirala has advocated for Acharya’s candidacy, leading to a deadlock.

Similarly, tensions are high regarding the candidacy for Bajhang A, with leaders Jagat Joshi and Abhishek Singh being considered contenders.

President Deuba supports Singh, while leader Shekhar Koirala backs Joshi, further complicating the decision-making process within the party.
