NC Prepares for Mahasamiti Meeting in November

The Nepali Congress (NC) is gearing up for its Mahasamiti meeting scheduled for November. The party has fixed the dates for the crucial gathering, with the event set to take place from November 29 to December 1. The primary objective of this meeting is to shape the party’s future policies.

Heading the organizing committee responsible for orchestrating this event is NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba. This committee comprises central officials, central members, province presidents, district presidents from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, as well as leaders of affiliated organizations.

Notably, the 14th general convention of the party previously endorsed its statute and elected Sher Bahadur Deuba as the party President. This convention also saw the election of 134 central committee members. Currently, the NC boasts a total of 168 central committee members.

President Deuba adhered to an inclusive approach by nominating 31 out of 33 central members, with Shekhar Koirala automatically becoming a central member after his defeat in the party presidential race.

Krishna Prasad Paudel, Chief Secretary of the NC, announced that the Central Committee meeting held in July made the decision to hold the Mahasamiti meeting in November. This decision is in line with legal provisions that allow the Mahasamiti to address various party policies without requiring a separate policy convention.

During the Mahasamiti meeting, NC General Secretary Gagan Thapa is slated to present the organizational report, while another General Secretary, Bishwaprakash Sharma, will present contemporary political proposals.

Despite suggestions to hold the Mahasamiti meeting outside of Kathmandu, the party has confirmed that the gathering will indeed take place in the capital city.
