Nepali Congress Expresses Dissatisfaction with Coalition Government’s Performance

Despite Key Ministries, NC Deems Progress Unsatisfactory

The Nepali Congress (NC), a key partner in the coalition government led by Maoist Center’s Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, has voiced dissatisfaction with the government’s performance during a recently-concluded Central Committee meeting.

Key Ministries Express Concerns

The Nepali Congress, overseeing critical portfolios including finance, foreign affairs, labor, and employment, expressed disappointment despite holding pivotal ministries. Ministers from the Nepali Congress provided updates on their respective areas, but the party concluded that the overall progress of the government fell short of expectations.

Mixed Economic Indicators

While acknowledging positive indicators in the economic sector, such as a decrease in loan interest rates and increased real estate activity, the NC emphasized that these advancements were not substantial. The party highlighted lower imports of goods in the current financial year compared to the previous year, signaling unsatisfactory progress in the commercial and business sectors.

Ongoing Financial Challenges

The meeting underscored a persistent challenge—financial difficulties in funding capital expenditures. Delays in payments to builders of completed projects were identified as contributing to a slowdown in development and construction initiatives.

Diplomatic Lapses Criticized

Despite significant strides by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the NC’s leadership, the party criticized the government for its alleged failure to secure the release of Bipin Joshi, a student in Israel, and the retrieval of the body of a Nepali citizen who died while enlisted in the Russian army during the Russia-Ukraine war.

Party’s Verdict: Dissatisfaction Paints the Picture

The Nepali Congress’s evaluation of the coalition government painted a picture of dissatisfaction, citing both economic concerns and specific lapses in diplomatic efforts. This development adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing dynamics within the coalition, raising questions about the future trajectory of the government’s policies and the potential for reshuffling key portfolios.
