Nepali Congress Karnali Parliamentary Party Leader Suspended
Jeewan Bahadur Shahi, the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress in the Karnali Provincial Assembly, has been automatically suspended following the filing of a corruption case against him at the Special Court.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) lodged a corruption case against Shahi and 32 others on Thursday. They stand accused of allegedly causing a loss of Rs 1.47 billion to the state in the procurement process of two Airbus A330 jets for the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC).
According to the provisions outlined in the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2001, and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Act, 1991, individuals occupying public office face automatic suspension once a corruption case is filed against them.
Shahi’s suspension will remain in effect until a final verdict is delivered by the Special Court.
