Nepal witnessed a remarkable surge in tourist arrivals via air in March, marking a 28.9% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

In March 2024, a total of 128,167 foreign tourists arrived in Nepal, signifying a significant boost to the tourism sector. This surge indicates a positive trend in Nepal’s tourism industry, particularly as the country enters the peak tourism season of spring.

The cumulative data for the first quarter of 2024 also revealed encouraging figures, with a total of 304,693 tourist arrivals recorded during this period. This growth underscores Nepal’s appeal as a favored destination for travelers worldwide.

India emerged as the leading source market for Nepal in March, contributing 30,698 arrivals, followed closely by China and the United States with 12,093 and 10,763 visitors, respectively. Notably, other countries such as the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Germany, Thailand, France, and Myanmar also made substantial contributions to Nepal’s tourism landscape.

Region-wise, Asia (SAARC) accounted for the highest share of tourist arrivals in March, comprising 31.8% of the total influx. Following closely, Asia (Others) constituted 22.4% of arrivals, while Europe accounted for 21.5%. Additionally, Oceania, the Americas, and other regions contributed significantly to Nepal’s tourism market during the month.

The encouraging statistics for March follow a robust performance in the preceding months. Nepal welcomed 79,100 visitors in January and recorded 97,426 foreign visitors in February, indicating sustained momentum in tourism growth.

As Nepal gears up for the spring season, renowned for its trekking and mountaineering expeditions, including those to Mt. Everest, stakeholders in the tourism sector remain optimistic about the prospects for further growth and development in the coming months.
