Oli Calls for Continued Focus on Transitional Justice
CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli has emphasized the ongoing importance of addressing transitional justice, cautioning against premature declarations of resolution, particularly in light of the sentiments of the victims.
Speaking at the Fourth National Conference of Human Rights Defenders organized by the Human Rights Alliance on Tuesday, Chairman Oli highlighted the necessity of maintaining transparency and fostering a cooperative relationship with victims in transitional justice efforts.
He criticized Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba for what he described as a lack of sincerity in resolving the issue, attributing its prolonged existence of over 18 years and the exacerbation of victims’ suffering to their approach.
Chairman Oli asserted that during his tenure, the UML government had earnestly worked on transitional justice issues, advocating for a victim-friendly approach. He emphasized the importance of truth-seeking and resolving the matter with the perspective of the victims at the forefront.
“The UML government had been sincerely working on the issues of transitional justice. We have been advocating for a victim-friendly approach in addressing this matter,” he stated, reiterating the need to prioritize the concerns and perspectives of the victims in the resolution process.
