PM Prachanda and Bangladesh counterpart Hasina Hold Meeting on Bilateral Cooperation

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ of Nepal and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh held a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations Food Systems Summit in Rome, Italy. The meeting took place at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization head office, where the two leaders engaged in discussions on matters of mutual interest and concern.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal and Prime Minister Hasina focused on strengthening collaboration in the agriculture and hydropower sectors between their respective nations. They explored avenues for enhancing regional cooperation and partnership as well.

Accompanying Prime Minister Dahal were Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Beduram Bhusal, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and members of the Nepali delegation. The Bangladeshi government’s high officials were also present on the occasion, highlighting the significance of the discussions.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was Bangladesh’s immediate plan to import 40 megawatts of power from Nepal, as part of its broader vision to import 9,000 megawatts of power from Nepal by the year 2040. Additionally, Bangladesh expressed its interest in investing in essential hydropower projects in Nepal.

The meeting between the two Prime Ministers signifies a positive step towards fostering closer ties and enhancing cooperation in vital sectors between Nepal and Bangladesh.
