PM Prachanda Urges Curriculum Revamp to Curb Brain Drain

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has called for a significant overhaul of the national curriculum to better retain young talent and encourage entrepreneurial ventures within Nepal. Speaking at the 12th convocation ceremony of Purbanchal University, PM Prachanda emphasized the need for an educational framework that fosters innovation and vocational skills aimed at national prosperity.

The Prime Minister highlighted the urgency of updating educational content to prevent the ongoing brain drain, where many of Nepal’s educated youths seek opportunities abroad. “We need to make the curriculum resonate with the times, infusing it with technology and research priorities to cultivate a sense of staying and building the nation,” he said.

Stressing the importance of technical education and skills development, PM Prachanda noted that the current emphasis on rote learning does not suffice in generating real knowledge or competence among students. He pointed out the critical role of youth, who make up about 40% of Nepal’s population, in driving the country’s future through their energy, skills, and innovative capacity.

The Prime Minister also expressed his concern over the slow pace of educational reform and the necessity for change to enhance employment opportunities and national growth through increased production and entrepreneurship.
