Rabi Cannot Remain in Office on Moral Grounds, Says Leader Koirala
Main opposition party Nepali Congress leader Dr.Shashanka Koirala has called for the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane. Citing moral obligations, Leader Koirala asserted that Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in a cooperative fraud case disqualifies him from maintaining his position within the government.
Following discussions in the House of Representatives, Leader Koirala emphasized the importance of ethical standards in public office, stating that Lamichhane’s continuance in his role undermines the integrity of the government.
However, Leader Koirala also conveyed openness to the possibility of Lamichhane returning to his ministerial duties if the allegations against him are adequately addressed through a thorough investigation process.
Moreover, Leader Koirala showed support for the demand put forth by the Rastriya Swatantra Party for an investigation into various scam cases dating back to 2046. He underscored his party’s stance on establishing a high-level investigation committee within the Parliament to scrutinize all past scams, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
