Rabi Lamichhane Urges Focus on Disaster Relief Over Political Agenda

In a recent Facebook post, Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), criticized the top leaders of major political parties for their meeting on strengthening the republic and their response to ongoing disaster relief efforts.

Top leaders of major political parties, including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli, and Nepal Socialist Party Chair Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, had gathered to discuss the enhancement of the republican system, acknowledging the 12-point agreement, peace process, and constitution making.

During the meeting, the leaders expressed their commitment to working collaboratively to strengthen the republic and to intensify bilateral and multilateral discussions in the days ahead.

Rabi Lamichhane, in his Facebook post, addressed the leaders and expressed his concern over the distribution of relief materials. He highlighted the struggles faced by earthquake victims and the lack of proper support for those affected by natural disasters. He questioned the leaders’ focus on the system and change, emphasizing the immediate need to save lives and support the affected communities.

Lamichhane further stressed that if the political leaders were unable to distribute collected tents, rice, and pulses effectively, his party, RSP, was ready to take responsibility for reconstruction efforts. He reminded them that there was no immediate danger to the system and that the people would protect it.

The post also underlined the dire situation in regions like Jajarkot, Rukum, and Bajhang, where people who had fought for political change in the country were now forced to sleep under the open sky during the ongoing crisis. Lamichhane acknowledged the commendable efforts in rescue but criticized the distribution of relief materials, calling for more efficient and effective relief operations.
