Two Deaths Reported Amidst Chaos Following Minister’s Vehicle Torching in Lalitpur

In a disturbing turn of events, two youths lost their lives following a clash between protestors and security personnel in the Gwarko area of Lalitpur on Friday. The demonstration, centered around the contentious issue of the Employment Permit System (EPS), escalated when protestors set ablaze the vehicle belonging to Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Prakash Jwala (Ba 2 Jha 5861) at Balkumari in Lalitpur.

The violent confrontation unfolded during Friday noon, as tensions mounted between the demonstrators and security forces. The clash left Birendra Shah, 22, fatally injured. Despite efforts to save him, Shah succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Patan Hospital.

Another casualty of the unfortunate incident was Sujan Raut, approximately 23 years old, who breathed his last at KIST Hospital in Imadole, as confirmed by Amish Pathak, the Chief Operating Officer of KIST. Raut, originally from Jumla and residing in Bhaktapur, was discovered lying on the road in Balkumari with chest bruises. Despite a 45-minute attempt at cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), medical personnel declared him dead around 1:45 in the afternoon.

The situation remains tense in the affected areas, with a substantial deployment of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) personnel in and around Balkumari and Gwarko. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation of violence and ensure public safety.
