117 Wild Animals Found Dead in Chitwan National Park in a Year; Majority Succumbed to Natural Causes
In the last fiscal year, a tragic incident unfolded in Chitwan National Park as 117 wild animals were discovered dead. Among them, 17 different types of wildlife were found lifeless, with the incidents also extending to the nearby Madhyawarti community forest.
Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, the Information Officer at CNP, revealed that the majority of the animal deaths were attributed to natural reasons. Out of the total fatalities, 80 animals succumbed to natural causes, while 26 others fell victim to dog bites.
The deceased animals encompassed various species, with 55 spotted deer, 22 one-horned rhinos, nine ghariyal crocodiles, seven antelope, three tigers, and one each of Gaurigai and wild buffalo found dead in and around the area. Additionally, the unfortunate list comprised elephants, two wild boars, magar crocodiles, ratuwa, porcupines, jackals, dhanesh, laguna, and leopards.
Despite the grim scenario, there was some glimmer of hope, as the CNP data reported that 142 wild animals were successfully rescued during the same period.
