147,000 acquire passport in the month of Jestha alone: Department of Passports

The number of people acquiring passports is reported to be increasing lately.
According to the Department of Passports, 147 thousand people got new passports and their passports renewed in the Nepali month of Jestha (May 15 to June 15) alone, the highest number as of now, said the Department spokesperson and director Durapada Sapkota.
She said 142,000 people got new passports and their passports renewed in the Nepali month of last Chaitra (March 15 to April 13), and 125,000 in Baisakh (April 14 to May 14).
There is a legal provision that a Nepali passport should be renewed every 10 years. Out of the total 400,000 copies of passports with 67 pages each printed, 5,000 have been distributed, and the distribution is ongoing, said the Department.
