78 projects submit SMR to Environment department
Seventy-eight projects have submitted the self-monitoring report (SMR) to the Department of Environment under the Ministry of Forests and Environment.
Director General of the Department, Shiva Lal Tiwari, shared that 13 projects related to hydropower, one related to the power transmission line, three related to the health sector, two related to the tourism sector and 59 industries submitted the self-monitoring report.
Department on March 19 issued a notice asking industries, institutions and projects to submit the self-monitoring report. After the notice, the Department has started receiving such reports even from other sectors except industries.
Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ hydropower project has already submitted a second self-monitoring report to the Department during the period as per the notice.
Tiwari further said, “Some industries were regularly submitting the self-monitoring report at the Department before publishing the notice. Those submitting the self-monitoring report regularly are Asian Paints Nepal Pvt Ltd, Bottlers Nepal Limited, Gorkha Brewery, Panchakanya Group, Nimbus Cultivating Partnership, Reliance Spinning Mills Limited, Unilever Nepal Limited and PBT Best Industries Limited.”
A total of 106 self-monitoring reports from 78 projects were received at the Department in different phases in the last fiscal year 2079/80 BS.
