Strengthening republic major responsibility of govt: Minister Sharma

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma stated that the major responsibility of the incumbent government is to protect and further consolidate the republic system.

Addressing the meeting of the Spokespersons of various ministries in the context of the impending Republic Day here today, Minister Sharma, also the Spokesperson of the government, stressed that the indicators and facts of the progress achieved since the declaration of a republic in the country in 2008 should be taken among the public.

On May 28, 2008, the Constituent Assembly declared Nepal a Federal Democratic Republic, thereby abolishing the over two centuries-old monarchy.

Expressing her concern over the wrong tendency of publicizing the weakness of the government or those holding public offices as the weakness of the system, the Minister spoke of the need to discourage such a tendency. She argued that it was necessary to hold fact-based discussions about the positive aspects and good delivery of the republic system against the wrongdoers who attack on the system due to a certain individual’s character or tendency.

“There is no denying to the fact that people assuming public roles and responsibilities are also not devoid of weakness but those wrongdoers are brought to book sooner or later,” Minister Sharma said.

Minister Sharma pointed out the need to conduct a comparative analysis of the socio-economic, political, cultural and environmental realm before and after the establishment of the federal democratic republic in the country. The public should be sensitized about the finding of such comparative analysis.

According to her, preparations were on to streamline public service delivery through a one-door system. “A website and an App would be launched through the Department of Information that disseminates information on government’s undertakings and activities through a single-door system,” she shared.
