Chinese Obstruction Hinders Businessmen’s Entry into Kerung

China’s decision to open its border some time ago has faced a setback as businessmen continue to be blocked from entering Kerung, a border town between Nepal and China. Frustrated by the ongoing obstacles, the business community is now urging for easier facilitation of entry permits, specifically requesting a simplified process to obtain identity cards allowing them to travel from Rasuwagadhi, the northern border crossing between the two nations.

Unable to personally travel to Kerung, businessmen have resorted to sending vehicles instead. However, they insist that granting entry permits to drivers, workers, and traders from the Rasuwagadhi checkpoint, in accordance with the immigration procedures set by the Immigration Department of China, is crucial for smoother trade operations.

Jhalakram Adhikari, the director general of Nepal’s immigration department, has assured the business community that the issues surrounding the Rasuwagadhi crossing will be resolved soon, in adherence to the established regulations. However, the Chinese side remains persistent in obstructing the process, citing various pretexts.

The Nepal Transport Independent Labor Organization and Nepal Truck Container Pvt Ltd have joined forces to collectively voice their concerns and appeal for a resolution to the challenges faced at the border. They believe that easier facilitation of entry permits for drivers, workers, and traders is essential to maintain seamless trade and economic activities between the two countries.
