Coordination Essential for Anti-Money Laundering Efforts: PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the necessity of coordinated efforts among all relevant bodies to effectively combat money laundering and minimize financial crimes in the country.

In a message delivered on the occasion of the Prevention of Money Laundering First National Day, 2025, PM Oli stressed the importance of collaboration among informant organizations, regulatory agencies, law enforcement bodies, and judicial institutions involved in anti-money laundering initiatives.

“The mechanism for the prevention of money laundering must operate effectively to uphold financial integrity and transparency, while preventing the infiltration of assets acquired through criminal activities,” the Prime Minister stated in his message.

PM Oli expressed hope that the observance of the Day would inspire greater effectiveness in combating money laundering and maintaining financial discipline. He highlighted that the misuse of wealth for criminal purposes poses a significant threat to the economy and governance transparency.

He also reassured professionals and businesses with genuine intentions, urging them to continue their work without fear or distraction.

The Prime Minister’s message was read aloud at a program organized by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DMLI) to mark the occasion.

This year’s National Day was celebrated under the theme “Transparency in Financial Activities, Commitment to Prevention of Money Laundering.” The government designated 14th of Magh in the Nepali calendar as the Prevention of Money Laundering National Day, in recognition of the promulgation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2064 BS.

The observance highlights Nepal’s commitment to maintaining financial hygiene, integrity, and combating financial crimes to strengthen governance and economic transparency.
