Nepal – The Kathmandu Valley has been hit by heavy rainfall, leading to flooding in rivers and streams. The Weather Forecasting Division has issued an alert due to the continuous downpour that has persisted since last night.

The Division has indicated that Nepal will experience several more days of rainfall due to the monsoon’s low-pressure system situated north of its usual location, near Nepal. The heavy rainfall is further exacerbated by the monsoon winds and a low-pressure system affecting Bihar, India.

Currently, provinces including Madhes, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Gandaki are witnessing light to moderate rainfall.

Amidst these conditions, the Division has issued a cautionary advisory, urging individuals to avoid proximity to flooded rivers and streams. The flood forecasting section has recommended staying vigilant until 11:00 AM as water levels continue to rise in various water bodies.

Areas such as Budhanilakantha, Surdarijal, Nagarkot, and nearby regions encountered substantial rainfall at 6:00 AM today. This intense downpour has led to flooding in rivers and streams like Bishnumati, Dhobikhola, and Manohara, posing risks to those traveling near these water bodies.

The Division’s weather forecasting bulletin predicts that Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces will likely experience heavier rainfall, while other areas will have light to moderate showers. Some regions within Koshi, Lumbini, Madhes, and Bagmati Provinces could also encounter thunderstorms and lightning alongside downpours.

Inundation Affects Kathmandu Valley Residents

The relentless rainfall since the previous night has resulted in inundation across various parts of the Kathmandu Valley. Regions like Dhungedhara, Gaurighat, Guheshwori, Kapan, Samakhushi, and Anamnagar have experienced flooding. Senior Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Karki shared, “The heavy rainfall since last night has led to flooding in multiple areas of the Kathmandu Valley. Our police teams are actively patrolling and broadcasting messages to ensure safety around the Bagmati and Manohara Rivers.”

The inundations have severely disrupted public life, causing inconveniences due to waterlogged roads and schools.

Local authorities have also reported that Budhanilakantha, Sundarijal, and Nagarkot areas have seen rivers and streams overflow due to the heavy downpour.

The Weather Forecasting Division has emphasized the importance of safety near rivers like Bishnumati, Dhobikhola, Bagmati, and Manohara, warning that elevated water levels are expected until 11:00 AM.

In response to the floods and inundations, police teams have been deployed across various locations to raise awareness and ensure public safety, according to SSP Karki.
