Foreign Minister Commends India’s Contributions to Development
Foreign Minister NP Saud expressed his admiration for Bharat’s invaluable support in the development of Nepal and its people during the inauguration of the Himalaya Kiran Public Campus building. This educational institution in Khandbari Municipality was completed with the generous financial backing of the Government of Bharat. The Foreign Minister highlighted Nepal’s pride in having Bharat as a neighbor and looked forward to continued collaboration in advancing Nepal’s development.
Foreign Minister Saud, along with Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, jointly inaugurated the newly constructed three-story campus building on Wednesday. Stressing the significance of the project, Minister Saud underscored its role in ensuring education for future generations and fostering moral development among Nepali youth. He expressed his expectations for ongoing Indian support in Nepal’s development endeavors.
Ambassador Srivastava emphasized the strong development partnership between India and Nepal, noting that it has made significant progress in various priority areas for the Nepali government and people. He reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to continuing this partnership in alignment with Nepal’s priorities, ultimately benefiting both nations.
Under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation project agreement, the campus building was constructed as a high-impact community development initiative at a cost of 374 million rupees. The facility boasts modern amenities, including classrooms, science labs, computer labs, libraries, and meeting halls, making it a hub for education and community gatherings. The project’s implementation was overseen by the District Coordination Committee Sankhuwasabha.
Himalaya Kiran Public Campus, initially founded in 1949 as Himalaya Middle School, underwent an upgrade in 2005 to offer postgraduate-level courses. Currently, the campus serves more than 600 students, with 60 percent of them being female. It offers both undergraduate and postgraduate education and has a track record of delivering quality education since its inception.
India’s commitment to Nepal’s development is further underscored by the initiation of 550 high-impact community development projects in Nepal since 2003, with 483 of them successfully completed. Notably, there are 84 such projects located in various areas within the Koshi province. Additionally, India has gifted 974 ambulances and 234 school buses to hospitals, health posts, and educational institutions across Nepal on Independence Day and Republic Day occasions.
Sankhuwasabha district has benefited from 13 ambulances provided by the Government of India, along with three school buses, including the one presented to this campus last July. This project epitomizes India’s commitment to Nepal’s development and reinforces the Nepalese government’s efforts to enhance educational infrastructure, as stated by the Indian Embassy in Nepal.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by political leaders of Sankhuwasabha, social activists, representatives from the Nepal government, campus officials, and members of the local community.
