Grade 12 Improvement Examinations Scheduled for September 22-23, Confirms National Examinations Board

In a recent announcement by the National Examinations Board (NEB), the grade improvement examinations for class 12 students are slated to be held on September 22-23. The upcoming exams are specifically intended for students who received non-grading results in their previous examinations.

Dr. Mahashram Sharma, Chairperson of the NEB, emphasized that the grade improvement examinations will be exclusively conducted for students who attained non-grading scores in their grade 12 exams. A significant alteration has been introduced in the examination protocol this year, deviating from the previous practice.

In previous years, a provision existed wherein students could opt for the grade improvement exams within the same year if they secured non-grading scores in up to two subjects. However, if a student received non-grading scores in more than two subjects, they were required to sit for exams in all subjects in the subsequent year.

Chairperson Sharma unveiled that a paradigm shift has been instituted starting this academic year. Under the revised framework, students with non-grading scores will be eligible to appear for improvement exams only in the same subjects where they acquired the non-grading scores initially.

The NEB Chairperson further disclosed that the total count of students eligible to participate in the grade improvement examinations for this year stands at 123,396. Within this cohort, a notable subset of 79,584 students garnered non-grading scores in only one subject.

As stipulated by the letter grading guidelines, non-grading denotes a performance below the threshold of 35 percent in any subject. It is imperative to note that students who receive non-grading scores will not be deemed eligible for higher education pursuits or progression to upper-level classes without actively engaging in the grade improvement examinations.

The NEB’s decision to revise the grade improvement examination structure aligns with its commitment to enhancing academic outcomes and fostering academic excellence among students. The scheduled examinations on September 22-23 are poised to offer a unique opportunity for students to enhance their subject-specific grades and unlock doors to advanced educational prospects.
