International Relations and Tourism Committee Urges Government to Ensure Inclusive and Transparent Ambassador Appointments

The International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives has called on the government to uphold the principles of proportional inclusivity when recommending candidates for ambassadorial posts to various countries. During a meeting held at Singha Durbar today, the Committee engaged in discussions with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, emphasizing the need to adhere to the constitution and the Ambassador Appointment Guidelines-2075.

Committee Chairperson Raj Kishor Yadav stressed that the government must ensure ambassador appointments are inclusive and transparent, in line with the preamble of the constitution, and the provisions outlined in Articles 42 and 282, as well as the Ambassador Appointment Guidelines. He added that the Committee would continue to discuss the guidelines with the Foreign Ministry to ensure they are properly followed.

The meeting also reviewed the recent visit to India by the Foreign Minister and the process of appointing ambassadors. Lawmakers emphasized the importance of making ambassadorial recommendations transparent and free of controversy.

Lawmaker Bimalendra Nidhi praised the Foreign Minister’s recent visit to India, describing it as fruitful and expressing confidence that it would further strengthen mutual relations between Nepal and India. Raghuji Mahaseth also highlighted the need to maintain strong diplomatic relations with other countries, noting the success of the India visit.

Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana called for an update on the progress of the Pancheshwor Project, while Bhim Prasad Acharya emphasized that ambassadors should be responsible to the nation and its people. Eknath Dhakal and Shishir Khanal both stressed that future ambassadorial recommendations should be systematic and strictly adhere to the Ambassador Appointment Guidelines.

Lawmakers Hit Bahadur Tamang, Prabhu Sah, Prem Suwal, Ganga Ram Chaudhary, and Sunita Baral also voiced their opinions, urging the government to ensure the issues raised during the Foreign Minister’s India visit are implemented and that the ambassador appointment process remains transparent and accountable.
