Knife Attack Near Beijing School Injures Five, Including Three Children
A knife attack near a primary school in Beijing’s Haidian district left five people injured on Monday, including three children, according to police. The incident occurred midafternoon, and while none of the injuries are life-threatening, the 50-year-old suspect, identified by his surname Tang, was detained at the scene and is under investigation.
Videos circulating on social media showed two young children lying on the ground and a man, bloodied, being held down. Police confirmed the attack took place near a well-known primary school in the area.
This incident is the latest in a series of knife attacks across China this year. Last month, a 10-year-old Japanese student was fatally attacked near his school in Shenzhen, and in June, an attack at a Suzhou school bus stop left a woman dead and her child injured. More recently, a knife attack in a Shanghai supermarket earlier this month resulted in three deaths and 15 injuries.
Due to China’s stringent gun control laws, knives and improvised explosives are commonly used in violent attacks.
