Memorandum Submitted to Foreign Minister Demanding Clarification from Chinese Envoy

The Rashtriya Ekata Abhiyan has submitted a memorandum to Foreign Minister NP Saud, demanding clarification from Chinese Ambassador Chen Song regarding his statements about the Pokhara International Airport. The memorandum, signed by Vinay Yadav, Chairman of the Abhiyan, draws attention to Ambassador Song’s claim that the airport was constructed under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project.

During a program organized after the inaugural landing of a Sichuan Airlines plane from Chendu at the Pokhara International Airport on June 21, Ambassador Chen asserted that the Chinese company was responsible for designing and constructing the airport.

“The Pokhara International Airport was constructed by China. This was constructed under the BRI project,” he stated.

The memorandum urges the Foreign Minister to seek clarification from the Chinese embassy regarding the ambassador’s comments. It emphasizes the need to understand the basis of the ambassador’s claim and determine whether it aligns with the official position of the Government of Nepal.

Chairman Yadav stated in the memorandum, “Only clarifications on this matter will help clear all the confusion and ensure transparency in the bilateral relations between our two nations.”

The Rashtriya Ekata Abhiyan has also expressed concern about the potential effects of the Dragon Boat Race in Nepal and the increasing Chinese influence. Quoting the Abhiyan, “As we recognize the significance of cultural exchange and friendly relations with neighboring countries, it is crucial to assess such events in the context of national interest and sovereignty.” The statement further adds, “We urge the government to comprehensively evaluate the potential impact of the Dragon Boat Race on Nepal’s autonomy. Organizing such an event should align with our geopolitics. We implore you to carefully consider the implications.”

Stating that the concerns voiced by the Ekata Abhiyan represent the overall sentiments of the Nepalese people, the Abhiyan called upon them to take appropriate measures to safeguard Nepal’s sovereignty and national interests, and to address these concerns. Quoting the Abhiyan’s memorandum, “We are committed to supporting the government’s endeavors in upholding our nation’s integrity and fostering healthy international relations.”
