Monsoon Landslides Paralyze Nepal’s Highways, Authorities Launch Rescue Efforts

Monsoon-triggered landslides have wreaked havoc, caused extensive disruptions and blocked critical highways and road sections in multiple areas across Nepal.

Unrelenting rainfall has triggered landslides that have severed access to vital highways spanning Darchula, Sindhupalchowk, Mugu, Dadheldhura, Palpa, Rolpa, and Rukum (East), according to verified reports from authorities at the Police Headquarters in Naxal.

Notable thoroughfares affected include the Gokuleshwor-Darchula Highway in Darchula, alongside the Melamchi-Helambu road segment and Melamchi-Bhotang road section in Sindhupalchowk. Further obstruction has struck the Jumla-Nagma-Mugu Road section in Mugu, Dadheldhura-Dipayal road section in Dadheldhura, and the Bhimdutta Highway, as confirmed by the latest communiqué from the police headquarters.

Adding to the transportation turmoil, landslides have struck Siddhartha Highway in Palpa, the Shahidmarga road section in Rolpa, and the Mid-Hill Highway in Rukum (East), compounding the challenges faced by travelers in these regions.
