Mukul Dhakal Blocked from Presenting Critical Report; Protest Ensues

At the ongoing Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) central committee meeting, General Secretary Mukul Dhakal has been prevented from presenting his comprehensive report, sparking internal turmoil.

Despite prior approval in the secretariat meeting, where it was decided to allow Dhakal to present his six-page findings from interactions across 39 districts, RSP President Rabi Lamichhane allegedly intervened, blocking Dhakal’s presentation. This move has been criticized as a breach of decision-making protocols within the party.

Dhakal’s report reportedly includes sharp criticisms, advocating for a shift towards making the party more inclusive and less centered around individual leadership, particularly challenging the dominance of President Rabi Lamichhane.

In a symbolic act of protest, Dhakal sealed his mouth with black tape during the meeting, underscoring his frustration over the lack of transparency and his earlier demand for live telecast of the proceedings, which was allegedly ignored by Lamichhane.

The genesis of Dhakal’s report stems from the party’s recent electoral setback in Ilam-2, where their candidate Milan Limbu failed to secure even his deposit. Dhakal was tasked with conducting a thorough assessment across various districts, culminating in the preparation of his detailed six-page document.

Among its recommendations, the report calls for a strategic pivot towards fostering independent elected representatives, citing figures like Balen Shah and Gopal Hamal as potential leaders to rejuvenate the party’s prospects.
