Nepali Cardiologist Achieves Guinness World Record for Largest Cardiovascular Health Awareness Livestream on Facebook
Dr. Om Murti Anil, a distinguished interventional cardiologist, has set a new Guinness World Record for the ‘most viewers for a cardiovascular health awareness livestream on Facebook.’ The achievement comes after Anil conducted a live awareness program on heart disease prevention through his Facebook page on September 29, 2023, at 7:15 pm, coinciding with World Heart Day. The livestream successfully engaged 11,212 viewers in real-time.
Dr. Anil, with over 1.2 million followers on Facebook, has been dedicated to making medical information accessible to the public. His unique approach involves presenting complex medical concepts in a manner easily understandable by the general audience. Regularly sharing informative videos on his page, he has garnered popularity on social media for addressing critical heart-related issues.
Reflecting on his achievement, Dr. Anil remarked, “Most doctors treat patients, open hospitals and clinics, and are involved in academic activities. Apart from those activities, I have been making people aware of their cardiovascular health for a long time.”
Official confirmation from the UK-based Guinness World Records was received after the event, certifying Dr. Anil’s accomplishment. Despite the time taken for the official certificate to reach him, Dr. Anil emphasized the record’s significance beyond individual recognition. He stated, “This record, apart from showcasing individual capacity, skills, and identity, will serve as an inspirational source for people worldwide. This endeavor will contribute to social upliftment and raise awareness among the public about social responsibilities.”
This isn’t the first time Dr. Anil has been recognized for his contributions. In March 2023, he earned a place in the World Book of Records, London, for achieving the “longest running radio interview as a guest speaker on heart disease prevention.” The recognition was awarded for 44 consecutive episodes of the interview, conducted during 2013-14 and broadcasted by Image FM 103.6 Mhz.
Dr. Anil’s innovative use of mass media, including radio, television, newspapers, and prominent social media platforms like Facebook, has played a pivotal role in disseminating crucial information about various diseases and conditions. His commitment to public education and awareness continues to make a significant impact in the field of cardiovascular health.
