Over 63,000 Passengers Traveled Through Tribhuvan International Airport During Dashain Festival
In just two days during the Dashain festival, a total of 63,242 people traveled through Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). These flights, recorded for both domestic and international services, occurred on Phulpati (the seventh day) and Maha Astami/Mahanawami (the eighth and ninth days), which were observed on the same date this year.
According to TIA Spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, on October 11, a total of 17,329 domestic passengers were recorded across 301 flights. The following day, 14,436 passengers traveled on 278 domestic flights, bringing the total number of domestic passengers to 31,765 over the two days.
For international flights, 16,509 passengers traveled on 107 flights (both arrivals and departures) on October 11, followed by 14,968 passengers on the same number of flights the next day, totaling 31,477 international passengers.
This surge in travel follows an earlier record set on September 30, when TIA handled 559 flights with 35,704 passengers in a single day. The increase in demand for flights was driven by significant flooding and landslides caused by heavy rains on September 27-28. The disasters led to overcrowding at the airport as many people sought flights between September 29 and October 2. TIA has since returned to normal flight schedules.
