Prachanda Blames NC for Alliance Changes, Says, ‘Deuba Hindered Govt. Performance’

Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has come forward with allegations against Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Addressing the Maoist Center’s Secretariat Committee meeting on Monday, Dahal unveiled a slew of accusations against Deuba, citing reasons for the recent shake-up in the alliance.

Dahal, who had been leading the coalition government, revealed that the decision to forge a new alliance with CPN-UML was necessitated by the need to address persistent issues, despite being at the helm of the government.

He minced no words in leveling allegations against Deuba, accusing him of hindering progress on critical fronts.

Chief among Dahal’s grievances was Deuba’s purported reluctance to demonstrate flexibility on key provisions of the transitional justice laws, essential for addressing the legacy of Nepal’s tumultuous past. In addition, Dahal lamented Deuba’s refusal to replace underperforming ministers, despite repeated entreaties from his end. “I repeatedly urged Deuba to replace ministers whose performance remained weak, but I didn’t receive his support,” Dahal asserted before his party leaders.

The Prime Minister also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of specific ministers, including Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat and Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet, among others. Dahal accused Deuba of unnecessary meddling in the government’s affairs, alleging interference in matters ranging from employee promotions to operational decisions. “Deuba and his associates unnecessarily meddled in matters such as employee promotions and transfers. This government failed to meet expectations due to Deuba’s interference,” Dahal lamented.

Moreover, Dahal hinted at strained relations with the Nepali Congress coalition, citing Finance Minister Mahat’s perceived high-handedness as a key factor. “Minister Mahat showed indifference to my requests, but Deuba was not willing to replace him,” Dahal revealed, shedding light on the dynamics within the erstwhile coalition.

The Maoist Center Secretary Ganesh Sah provided insights into the meeting’s proceedings, highlighting a comprehensive assessment of the coalition government’s performance.
