Prime Minister Prachanda Marks National Senior Citizens Day, Affirms Commitment to Elderly Welfare

In a message commemorating the third National Senior Citizens Day, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ underscores government efforts to honor and leverage the wisdom of senior citizens for societal well-being.

In a heartfelt address on the occasion of the National Senior Citizens Day, Prime Minister Prachanda emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment that harnesses the wealth of knowledge, skills, experience, and wisdom possessed by the senior citizens. He highlighted the importance of their moral ideals, which the government aims to pass on to the new generation through a well-structured system.

Acknowledging society and nation as the bearers of cultural continuity and the catalysts for societal development, PM Dahal stressed the government’s dedication to addressing the concerns of senior citizens, ensuring they lead dignified, healthy, and happy lives. He urged all state mechanisms to be sensitive to the challenges arising from the changing demographic structure of the country.

PM Dahal expressed the government’s ongoing efforts to foster an environment where senior citizens receive continuous support from their families and communities. He reassured the public that programs aimed at benefiting senior citizens, such as social security allowances, health insurance, shelters, and daycare centers, would be expanded and improved in the future.

The third National Senior Citizens Day carries the theme ‘Respect for Senior Citizens, Recognition of Our Civilizations.’ This annual event, observed on the 11th day of the Nepali month of Poush, commemorates the initiation of social security allowances to senior citizens by the state on December 26, 1994.

Prime Minister Prachanda expressed hope that the day serves as an inspiration for individuals and communities to fulfill their national responsibility in ensuring the rights and self-dignity of senior citizens. He extended his best wishes to all senior citizens, recognizing their significant contributions to society and the nation throughout their lifetimes.
