Pushpa Kamal Dahal Advocates Shift in Nepal’s Political Framework

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has called for a transformative shift in Nepal’s political system, emphasizing the need to redefine governance and the electoral process. Addressing the second convention of the Maoist Centre Gorkha-Kathmandu Liaison Coordination Committee in Kathmandu on Saturday, he highlighted his party’s vision for systemic reforms.

Dahal underlined that the existing political course could only be realigned by introducing a directly-elected executive chief and adopting a fully proportional electoral system. Additionally, he advocated for the appointment of experts as ministers, asserting that these changes would strengthen Nepal’s republican structure and enhance governance efficiency.

The Maoist leader also stressed the importance of unifying fragmented political forces and cadres, noting that the current era demands a collective approach. “Political cadres and the general public will not always adhere to the directions of individual leaders. The time has come to bring divided streams under a single political current,” he stated.

Prachanda lauded the contribution of Gorkha’s leaders and cadres, crediting them with spearheading ideological and organizational strength since the inception of the Maoist-led people’s war. He acknowledged their continued commitment to advancing the party’s agenda.

This call for structural reforms and unity comes as the CPN (Maoist Centre) navigates challenges in consolidating its influence within Nepal’s complex political landscape. Dahal’s remarks signal a renewed push for systemic transformation to ensure long-term stability and inclusivity.
