RPP Leader to Home Minister: “What Are You Trying to Do?” Urges Caution in Arrests

Budhhiman Tamang, a prominent leader of the RPP (Rastriya Prajatantra Party) and a member of the State Order Committee, has voiced concerns over arbitrary arrests, urging Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane to uphold due process.

During a committee meeting convened on Wednesday, Tamang pointed to the recent arrest of Krishna Bahadur Mahara, citing it as a prime example of the need for caution in law enforcement actions. Expressing skepticism over the Home Minister’s approach, he questioned, “What are you trying to do?”

Tamang highlighted Mahara’s case, where he was apprehended by the police in Butwal, subsequently transferred to Kathmandu, and later hospitalized due to health concerns. While Mahara was eventually released, Tamang emphasized the discrepancy in media coverage surrounding the incident.

Strongly criticizing the practice of making arrests without substantial evidence, Tamang denounced the act as unacceptable. He asserted that such actions not only tarnish the reputation of individuals but also undermine the principles of justice and fairness.

“Deliberately apprehending individuals, subjecting them to humiliation, and then releasing them is unacceptable,” Tamang declared, calling for a more cautious and evidence-based approach in law enforcement procedures.
