Series of Earthquakes Jolt Jajarkot, Latest Measuring Magnitude 4.4

A light earthquake with a local magnitude (ML) of 4.4 struck the Paink area of Jajarkot district at 4:53 AM on Tuesday (2082/01/02), according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre (NEMRC), under the Department of Mines and Geology.

This follows another tremor of magnitude 4.1 that occurred in the same region at 9:31 PM on Monday. The epicenter of both quakes was located in Paink, the central area of Kushe Rural Municipality.

While the recent quakes have not yet been confirmed to have caused any new damage, local authorities are monitoring the situation. On April 3, the same area was shaken by two stronger earthquakes—measuring 5.2 and 5.5 in magnitude—which reportedly damaged several houses.

In addition to Jajarkot, seismic activity has been recorded in other parts of western Nepal in recent weeks, including Darchula and Humla districts, which also experienced minor quakes during March and April.

The recent string of tremors underscores the region’s seismic vulnerability, prompting authorities and locals to remain alert.
