Three local levels in Makawanpur ban tobacco products, alcohol in public place
Three local levels in Makawanpur district have banned tobacco products and alcohol in the public place effective from today.
Manahari Rural Municipality, Hetauda Sub Metropolitan City and Bakaiya Rural Municipality took a decision to this effect by incorporating the policy in their policies and programmes for the current fiscal year, 2023/24.
The control and regulation in the sale and consumption of tobacco products are as per the directives made in line with the Tobacco Products (Control and Regulatory) Act, 2011, said the sub-metropolis spokesperson Sabin Neupane.
“The sale and consumption of tobacco products and alcohol within 100 meters of the public place like schools, government offices and hospitals. Violating the rules is subject to a fine of between Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000,” he said.
Hotels and restaurants have been directed to create a separate smoking lounge, he said.
