Top Bahadur Rayamajhi sends sick note to parliament

Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, the Secretary of the CPN-UML and a member of the House of Representatives, has been evading arrest since a warrant was issued for him last week. In an effort to explain his absence, Rayamajhi has sent a letter to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, citing his current health condition as the reason for his absence.

This letter, which has reportedly reached the administrative division of the Secretariat, has raised more questions than answers. The source of the letter and the method of its delivery remain shrouded in mystery. However, what is clear is the gravity of the situation.

Rayamajhi is in a precarious position, as he could lose his position as a lawmaker if he misses 10 consecutive parliamentary meetings. Furthermore, the arrest warrant was issued after individuals implicated in the Bhutanese refugee scam investigation pointed fingers at him.

In a move to distance themselves from the scandal, the UML party has suspended Rayamajhi until the investigation is concluded. The investigation has already led to the arrest of 12 individuals, including Rayamajhi’s son Sandeep, as well as prominent figures such as Tek Narayan Pandey, the secretary at the Office of the Vice President, and former home minister Bal Krishna Khand.

The gravity of the situation cannot be understated, as it has sent shockwaves through the political establishment. The fate of Rayamajhi, a prominent politician, hangs in the balance, and the outcome of the investigation could have far-reaching implications for the political landscape of Nepal.
