TU Vice Chancellor Appointment Process Faces Setback

In a recent development, the appointment process for the vice chancellor position at Tribhuvan University (TU) has hit a roadblock as the selection and recommendation committee announced the cancellation of the current process.

The committee, responsible for recommending names for the vice chancellor appointment, issued a notice on January 5, inviting applications for the prestigious position. However, the call for applications has been abruptly withdrawn following a dispute over the provisions outlined in the initial notice.

Stakeholders, including university officials and concerned parties, raised objections to a specific requirement in the notice. The contentious provision demanded a certified copy of details pertaining to university officials who had served in any position for at least three years, specifying the exact year, month, and day.

In response to the growing discontent, Chancellor and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal took a personal interest in the matter and directed the issuance of a new notice to address the concerns raised by the stakeholders.

The revised notice is expected to provide clarity on the disputed provisions and ensure a smoother and more inclusive vice chancellor appointment process. The stakeholders who protested against the initial notice are now anticipating a fair and transparent procedure that aligns with the principles of the university.
