Where Citizenship Issuance Declines, Passport Issuance Grows…..

Baitadi, a district in Nepal, is witnessing a decline in the production of Nepali citizenship certificates juxtaposed with a rising trend in passport applications.

According to the District Administration Office of Baitadi, the statistics reflect a decline in the number of individuals involved in the issuance of Nepali citizenship certificates, while the demand for passport applications is on the rise.

Suresh Panthi, the Chief District Officer of Baitadi, shared that during the fiscal year 2079-80, a total of 6,338 individuals were granted Nepali citizenship. Among them, 3,396 were men, and 2,942 were women. A notable observation was that 12 individuals acquired citizenship through marriage, while five chose to renounce their Nepali citizenship certificates.

Comparatively, in the financial year 2078-79, the count of citizenship grants was higher, reaching 8,514 individuals.

Over the course of a year, a balanced distribution of 4,257 men and 4,257 women were issued Nepali citizenship certificates. Alongside this, 20 individuals were granted citizenship through marriage, and four individuals voluntarily surrendered their Nepali citizenship certificates.
