The 7th Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) officially unveiled its diverse and captivating lineup during a program held in the capital on Tuesday. Organized by the Nepal Film and Cultural Academy, the festival is scheduled to take place from March 14 to March 18, promising a cinematic celebration of narratives from around the world.

A total of 88 films, carefully selected from over 500 submissions representing 60 countries, will grace the festival screens this year. With the theme “Celebrating narratives from around the world,” NIFF aims to showcase a blend of both national and international films, providing a platform for cultural exchange through the art of cinema.

Awards will be presented in various categories, including feature films, short films, and documentaries, as announced by the organizers. The prestigious ‘Gautam Buddha Award,’ with a prize of 1,500 US dollars, will be bestowed upon the best feature film in the international competition, according to KP Pathak, the chairman of the NIFF organizing committee.

Expressing the challenge of curating the selection from a pool of high-quality submissions, Pathak mentioned that valuable suggestions gathered during the festival would be submitted to the government through the Film Development Board.

During the press conference, Bhuwan KC, Chairman of the Nepal Film Development Board, shared his optimism about the festival facilitating an exchange of experiences between the national and international film communities. He emphasized the board’s commitment to providing essential support for the success of the film festival.

In addition to the film screenings and awards, the organizers highlighted a range of activities planned for the festival, including workshops, interactions, and discussion programs. These sessions will feature the participation of experienced and renowned filmmakers, fostering a dynamic environment for learning and collaboration within the global film community.

As the countdown to NIFF begins, anticipation builds for a week of cinematic brilliance and cultural exchange, promising enriching experiences for both filmmakers and audiences alike.
