International Relations Committee Criticizes Chinese Envoy’s Remarks

The recent statement made by Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, has stirred up controversy within a parliamentary committee. During a meeting of the International Relations Committee held on Thursday, lawmakers expressed their disapproval of Ambassador Song’s comments regarding Nepal-India relations and Nepal’s economy, which he had made the previous Saturday. His remarks were considered to breach diplomatic norms and decorum.

Ambassador Song’s statement included remarks about Nepal incurring losses from electricity trade with India and used undiplomatic language when discussing Nepal’s quest for self-sufficiency.

During the meeting, Shishir Khanal, a lawmaker from the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), voiced his concerns, labeling the Chinese ambassador’s remarks as undiplomatic. He emphasized the importance of addressing this issue to prevent further discomfort.

Likewise, Prabhu Shah, a lawmaker from the Aam Janata Party, called for an apology from the Chinese ambassador and urged measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Additionally, parliamentarians also pointed out the omission of Nepal’s new map in a recent map release by China. Furthermore, MPs discussed the topics to be raised during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s upcoming visits to the United States and China.
