Minister Shrestha Proposes High-Level Committee for TU Land Management

Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Sumana Shrestha, announced plans to establish a high-level committee for managing land owned by Tribhuvan University (TU). In a session of the House of Representatives today, the Minister emphasized the need for efficient management of TU’s land resources.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by the vast extent of university land, Minister Shrestha proposed a three-month sampling study to facilitate effective decision-making. She highlighted ongoing discussions with student unions to ensure the smooth implementation of TU’s academic calendar, stressing the importance of mutual cooperation among TU administration, employees, and student unions.

Addressing concerns about political interference and protests from employee unions, Minister Shrestha called for dialogue with top political leadership to resolve issues of repeated disruptions. She emphasized the depoliticization of the university environment for effective governance.

Furthermore, Minister Shrestha pledged to explore diplomatic solutions to address issues in the Bangladesh scholarship scheme, recognizing its significance in bilateral relations. The Minister also mentioned ongoing efforts to appoint TU service members to strengthen the institution’s operational capacity.

In support of these initiatives, Secretary at the Education Ministry, Dr. Deepak Kafle, expressed commitment to addressing challenges in the education sector, promising to pursue effective solutions.
