National Assembly Presented Order to Extend Terms of Transitional Justice Commissions

An order aimed at extending the terms of the two commissions responsible for transitional justice was formally introduced in the National Assembly today. The Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs presented the order, which pertains to the extension of the mandates of both the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons.

The decision to prolong the tenures of these twin commissions was reached by the Council of Ministers on July 4, taking into account the remaining tasks within the peace process. The order aligns with the provisions of the Act on Commission in Investigation of Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Act of 2071 (2014).

During the session, Jayanti Devi Rai, the President of the Legislative Management Committee, presented a comprehensive study report dated 2080 BS, outlining laws that are yet to be enacted in accordance with the 2015 Constitution of Nepal.

In addition, National Assembly Chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina read aloud letters received from the Office of the President. These correspondences addressed matters related to the authentication of bills, the formation of the Council of Ministers, and the allocation of ministerial portfolios.

The National Assembly is set to reconvene at 1:01 pm on September 4 for its next session.
