Nepal Crushes Bahrain with 10 Wickets

Nepal has emerged victorious in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier for the second consecutive time. The Nepali team achieved this feat by defeating Bahrain with a convincing 10-wicket victory today.

Nepal’s journey to the title began with a hard-fought win against Malaysia, where they triumphed by a mere 5 runs in their opening match. However, the real statement was made in the match against Bahrain, where Nepal achieved a resounding 10-wicket victory.

In pursuit of Bahrain’s target of 32 runs, Nepal’s openers, Sita Rana Magar and Kajal Kunwar, showcased their brilliance, sharing a 32-run partnership. Kabita remained not out with 17 runs, while Sita contributed 2 runs to seal the win.

Bahrain, after choosing to bat first upon winning the toss, struggled to put up a substantial total, managing only 31 runs in 15.4 overs. Nepal’s Indu Barma played a pivotal role, single-handedly taking three wickets while conceding just five runs in four overs, including maiden overs. Khushi Dangol also contributed with two wickets, while Kabita Kunwar, Pooja Mahato, and Rubina Chhetry each claimed one wicket.

Bahrain’s captain, Deepika Rasangika, was the highest scorer for her team, accumulating 11 runs before being dismissed by Barma. None of the other Bahraini batters managed to reach double-digit scores.

Nepal’s victory solidifies their position in Group ‘A,’ which also includes host Malaysia, Bhutan, Qatar, and the UAE. In their upcoming matches, Nepal will face Bhutan on Sunday, Qatar on Monday, and the UAE in the final group stage match on Wednesday.

The top two teams from the group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for Friday, September 8. The eagerly anticipated final match will take place on Saturday, September 9, with the winners securing a spot in the 2024 Global Qualifier.
