Nepal Secures Victory in Women’s T20

In a thrilling turn of events, Nepal emerged victorious in the Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series held in Malaysia. The championship was clinched after Nepal managed to defeat Hong Kong by 13 runs in a rain-interrupted final match that took place today.

The final match, held at the Bayuemas Oval Cricket Ground in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was marred by intermittent rain, which led to the implementation of the Duckworth-Lewis method to determine the result. Opting to field first after winning the toss, Nepal displayed a stellar performance as they restricted Malaysia to a total of 101 runs while claiming six crucial wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 102 runs set by Malaysia, Nepal’s batting effort was unfortunately cut short by the rain after just 5.3 overs, during which they managed to score 37 runs but lost one wicket in the process. Indu Barma and Sita Magar made noteworthy contributions, amassing 19 and 13 runs respectively. Despite the rain’s interference preventing the match from resuming, Nepal was declared the winner based on the Duckworth-Lewis calculation.

Key highlights of the match included Yasmin Daswani’s 11 runs, Ka Ying Chan’s 29 runs, Marina Antonia’s 19 runs, and Shanzeen Shahzad’s 14 runs for Hong Kong while batting. Khusi Dangol emerged as a star performer for Nepal, taking three critical wickets, while Ashmina Karmacharya and Kabita Joshi also managed to secure one wicket each. Khusi Dangol’s exceptional performance earned her the title of Player of the Match for the final encounter.

The Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series featured Nepal, Hong Kong, Kuwait, and host Malaysia, serving as a crucial preparatory event ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, scheduled to take place in Malaysia starting from August 31. Nepal’s triumph in this series not only boosts their confidence but also positions them favorably as they gear up to compete on the international stage.
