Nepali Army Celebrates 262nd Anniversary with Grand Ceremony

The Nepali Army marked its 262nd founding anniversary with a grand celebration at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, on Wednesday. The special ceremony featured martial arts demonstrations, a Shivaratri parade, a cannon salute, a military parade, and fireworks.

President Ram Chandra Paudel, Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, along with other government ministers and high-ranking officials, attended the event. In honor of Mahashivaratri and Army Day, the Nepali Army also hosted a special art exhibition at the venue.

As part of the commemoration, President Paudel laid a wreath at the Army Memorial, and a banner celebrating Army Day was unfurled while flowers were showered from a helicopter along with the national flag. The event also included a parade with an arms drill and a cannon salute.

Similar celebrations took place across military units, battalions, and bases throughout the country. Chief of Army Staff Ashok Sigdel currently leads the Nepali Army, which observes Mahashivaratri as Army Day.

Since 1958, the Nepali Army has been actively participating in United Nations peacekeeping missions, making Nepal the top contributor of troops to global peacekeeping efforts.
