Frequent Air Crashes Highlight Safety Concerns, Says Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has expressed concern over the frequent air crashes in Nepal, stating that they indicate the country’s skies are not safe. Speaking to the media today while unveiling the decisions of the recent Council of Ministers, the government spokesperson pledged to take a systematic approach to identify and address the root causes of these incidents.
Minister Gurung acknowledged the negative impact that the series of air crashes has had on Nepal’s tourism sector, warning that the situation could harm the country’s international reputation. He revealed that during the Council of Ministers meeting on August 7, it was agreed to form an investigation commission to probe the recent helicopter crash in Nuwakot.
The crash, involving a helicopter with the call sign 9N-AJD belonging to Air Dynasty Heli Service Pvt Ltd, occurred on Wednesday at Suryachaur in Shivapuri rural municipality, Nuwakot district. In response, the government has decided to establish a three-member investigation commission led by senior pilot Subas Thapa of the Nepali Army. The commission has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the accident and submitting a report with recommendations within 30 days of commencing its work.
Minister Gurung expressed his condolences for the loss of four Chinese nationals and one Nepali citizen in the tragic accident. He also emphasized that while the government has previously limited its response to forming investigation commissions, it is now committed to finding a comprehensive solution to the issue.
“The government is now discussing the root causes of these accidents, whether they stem from policy, management, technology, or the safety of our skies,” said Minister Gurung. “We will work to identify the problem and find a lasting solution.”
