‘Implementation of laws vital for good governance’

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized that the establishment of good governance in the country could only be ensured through the successful implementation of laws.

In his address to a program on “Challenges for good governance and the government’s future roadmap” organized by the Institute for Strategic and Socio-Economic Research (ISSR) today, the Prime Minister stressed the need to pay special attention to the effective implementation of laws to guide the country toward a path of good governance and prosperity.

“Preventing corruption is essential for the country’s overall development, to promote citizens’ interests, and to establish good governance,” stated the government head, underlining the necessity to legally empower and resource anti-corruption bodies.

The government, as announced, is committed to investigating any instances of corruption occurring at any time and taking legal action against those responsible for such offenses. “Good governance, social justice, and prosperity are the top priorities of the incumbent government, with the establishment and promotion of good governance at the forefront,” he added.

The Prime Minister highlighted the essential need for continuous collaboration and cooperation among the three tiers of government, the private sector, civil society, media, and the masses to implement the government’s policies against corruption and for good governance.

According to him, successful implementation of laws is essential for effective governance. “This will lead the country towards a path of good governance and prosperity.”

Sharing that a significant transformation was necessary in the policy and legal sectors, Prime Minister Dahal clarified that the government was actively working to formulate federal acts in line with national resolution and necessity.

He mentioned, “The government has been making necessary preparations to move forward with a process to draft laws and amend some laws through discussions with all parties represented in the parliament.”

Emphasizing that scientific policy, standards, and implementation of rewards and punishments were necessary to ensure good governance, the Prime Minister shared that the government has been progressing in accelerating development construction projects.

“Serious discussions are underway about achievements, problems, challenges in development projects, as well as reforms in policy-level, legal, structural, and working-style sectors to address these issues,” he stressed.

Sharing that the government would move ahead with some arrangements for structural reforms in the upcoming policy, program, and budget, PM Dahal added that projects would receive adequate means and resources, with prioritization of development projects, and should be completed within the stipulated time.
