Janamat Party Leaders Released After Brief Detention

In a swift turn of events, Janamat Party President CK Raut, along with party leader and Minister of Federal Affairs and General Administration Anita Devi, and other party members, have been released after a brief detention by the Nepal Police.

A total of 63 members of the Janamat Party, including President CK Raut, were detained by the police as they participated in a protest rally from New Baneshwar to Maitighar, entering a restricted zone. The police took action and held them at the Nepal Police Club for violating the prohibited area.

The detention, however, did not last long as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha personally intervened. He visited the Nepal Police Club and ordered the release of CK Raut, Minister Anita Devi, and all others who had been taken into custody, according to Kamal Giri, the press coordinator of Home Minister Shrestha.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Dineshraj Mainali, the spokesperson of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, explained that the Janamat Party leaders and members were detained by the Kathmandu Police Range for staging a demonstration in a prohibited area.
