PM Dahal and Deuba Hold Key Meeting Ahead of By-elections

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also the Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba convened a significant meeting on Tuesday night at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

The meeting, which lasted nearly an hour, saw discussions revolving around crucial issues including the TRC Bill and the upcoming by-elections scheduled for April 27. According to sources at Baluwatar, the leaders engaged in a thorough exchange of views on contemporary political matters during their session.

Earlier in the day, National Assembly Parliamentary Party leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula had met with Prime Minister Dahal, setting the stage for President Deuba’s subsequent visit to Baluwatar along with other party leaders.

President Deuba, however, expressed his discontent during the meeting, citing dissatisfaction with the alliance’s formation process, which he felt lacked a serious internal discussion.

This meeting marks the first interaction between Dahal and Deuba following the establishment of a new coalition, signifying its significance within the political landscape.

The upcoming by-elections in Ilam-2 and Bajhang Province Assembly-1, scheduled for April 27, have intensified political activities. While CPN-UML has already nominated Suhang Nembang for Ilam-2 and Damang Bhandari for Bajhang Province Assembly-1, other parties are yet to finalize their candidates for the by-elections.
